Today was probably one of the best days when it comes to measuring my productivity. I woke up an it was a slow start for sure, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. What was slow about it was the fact that I didn't want to get to the gym this morning, not because I was tired, sore, or exhausted - but because I wanted to spend as much time with my mom as I could. With the Spring 2021 semester of law school kicking back up Monday with a "professionalism" class Monday-Thursday 1-430. I'm super excited to go back to my busy schedule and my "normal" daily routine, of working, swimming, and studying. But I'm also not looking forward to going back to my apartment and being away from my mom.
See, my mom is literally my best friend, that woman knows everything about me, and everything in my life. No matter what is going on - I always keep her in the loop, we laugh, we argue, but no matter what I know she's in my corner - and she is always going to be here for me. So today I didn't want to go to the gym, because I knew that was going to be 2-3 Hours. But, I went and I had such a powerful life it was amazing - it was honestly everything I needed - I hadn't "lifted" like I usually do all week because I have been incorporating cardio into my workout this week and I missed lifting heavy. After I crushed my lift I headed home.
When I got home I helped my mom finish putting away our Christmas decorations and then we went and spent the afternoon hanging out. We went and grabbed lunch nothing fancy, just something simple we had chicken sandwiches from Burger King, twas a deal, any one who knows me and my mom knows we love deals, only second to anything that is free! We went to Michaels to get a photo framed of my great grandma, my grandma, my mom, and I - four generations of loud mouth strong, hard headed Italian woman! We shopped for deals - and I got some crafty shirts that I plan to bleach and crop! It's exciting because my mom and I are going to have matching shirts which is something so corny that we really enjoy having - but hey! Since we cant travel and continue the "mother daughter chronicles" we can can bleach shirts instead!
I taught my mom about pre-workout when we went to GNC for me to stock up on my pre-workout powered for when I workout. I made a joke about "taking a hit" of Pre before a workout and my mom was like "is it a drug" and I was like ya I sniff it in the locker room before I lift - I thought she was going to freak out but she started laughing! I was talking to the guy who worked there, and he was surprised that I dry scoop - sir, please come on ... its 2021 woman lift, woman are hard core get your head out of your ass. I love dry scooping it honestly gives me so much energy and I have the mental clarity to focus! And it translates outside of the gym too and continues throughout the rest of the day after the daily pump has been grinned out.
After that we hit the big ticket spot! We scored me a new blender so you best believe the "fruit soup" trilogy will continue this semester! I cant wait to make all different kinds of smoothie bowls with the new blender - I hope it can keep up!!! We went home after being out for longer than we thought we were - and got take out for dinner, my mom and I are all about trying to make "healthy" options when it comes to enjoying takeout so I had shrimp with broccoli because who doesn't like eating little trees! She had shrimp with snow peas because she was feeling "fancy".
After dinner she helped me file my paper work form the Fall 2020 semester, and box up my textbooks that I won't need to be stored. Then we printed all the paper work that was available for the new semester so I can start on my reading assignments for the 19th and bang them out ahead of time. I also printed all the "optional" yet strongly recommended readings for Monday - so now I know what I'll be doing tomorrow but at least I'm ahead of the game because I've already gotten my binders set up, I've printed everything that has been given to me ahead of time, and I have double checked to make sure I have all of my text books so I feel good to go. See I wasn't ready for the semester to start, but now I'm excited and I feel like I am ready and prepared. I know I'm going to kill it!
I have a plan and a schedule in place and I am so excited to see how the semester goes! I am super interested in the topics that will be covered so I cant wait to see what I get to learn! Aside from being excited to get back to classes - I'm excited to get back to work! Being able to work, and get work done ... see its a win win. Whether I am working out and working, or I'm studying and working - I benefit from being able to better myself, get ahead of assignments and my time is utilized and optimized and I am so thankful! It is the best of both worlds and its a gig that I can't pass up at all!
I am excited to get my car back that will be a weight lifted off my shoulders to know she is all good to go! I cant wait to start cooking for myself again too because I like to have more fruit and vegetables around but when I'm home, I feel like I dont have them as much as I'd like. Being home is always so wholesome, but also like having some stress driving my life. It has been so relaxing just being home, going to the gym, and resting - but I cant wait to see myself find the work life balance I struggle to keep balanced.
Productivity isn't always a check list, or staying up late to do things. It is about maximizing your time, getting things done, but enjoying yourself along the way. I was so lucky to spend the day with my mom and to have her help getting things together for the semester - not to mention how blessed I am, that she offered to pick up some things from the store for me to go back to school with. Little things like a 5 lbs bag of rice for my rice cooker make a difference since its a staple in my diet - I love to make taco and rice bowls for dinner because its quick easy, filling and I'm able to have left overs.
Its after 11 pm and its the latest I have been up since I finished finals which is so weird to say - but I stayed up watching TV with my mom because we didn't realize how late it had gotten. But no matter how late it is I was still determined ... and inspired to write - and I even did my nightly bible study. When something is important and it is apart of your lifestyle it becomes a priority and it is important for it to get done. So Going to be little later than normal is fine because that just means I get to sleep in a bit later! The weekends are meant to be restful and enjoyable, and it is meant to be spent with the ones you love who aren't working and have the free time.
What is something you love doing on the weekends that you dont get to do during the work week? Who would you like to spend more time with if you could? What would you like to do with that person?
